WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Books to do a little reading plan update.
The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?
I first started Women Who Run With the Wolves months ago. February I think. It was one of the books featured in Our Shared Shelf. I checked it out of the library, so I’ve had to return it a few times. This one really took me quite a while to get into. It’s very interesting, but some parts seem to go on quite long. This most recent time I’ve checked it out I’ve made the most progress, and I think I might manage to finish it before it’s due.
The Broken Eye is the third book in the Lightbringer series. I’ve only gotten a few chapters in, but the second book left off on quite the cliffhanger, so I was very excited to get back into it.
I actually wasn’t planning on reading, let alone buying Three Dark Crowns. I’ve read it before and I wasn’t crazy about it. Well, the first half was really slow. It did get better. But then One Dark Throne came out, I bought it, and I realized I didn’t really remember what happened. So now I need to reread.
The Beauty Myth was another pick for Our Shared Shelf. I have a full review coming, but in summary, it’s about how expectations of a woman’s appearance are used to control her and diminish her power. It was a wonderful read, one I will be recommending to anyone who reads.
Cherry Cheesecake Murder is the eighth installment of the Hannah Swensen cozy murder mysteries. I really don’t know why I’m still reading this series. It’s a pretty average story and the author kind of has an annoying writing style, in my opinion. I also really don’t think cozy mysteries are my genre. But here I am still reading.
Ever the Hunted has been on my TBR since it came out. It’s that beautiful cover! The story was fun, but hit on some major tropes that maybe I’m tired of? And it was definitely lacking a bit in the love story department. Meaning there was a love story, but I wasn’t really buying it.
I bought and started You Are a Badass a few months ago when I went to NYC (!!!) to visit friends. I’ll be posting a full review soon. Overall, I loved it. It made me laugh (in public, on the subway, no less) and I think it does have some very good points and ideas that I will be coming back to. I think it actually helped push me to finally start this blog, so there’s evidence that it’s working.
Dead Witch Walking was a pick for what to read this month in one of my Goodreads groups, otherwise I wouldn’t ever have picked it up. It was pretty fun, as a Cincy dweller, to imagine the city as overrun with the paranormal. Well, over the river. The regular people were still in the nasty Natti. Close enough. And that was really my only draw to this book. There were a few funny moments and a few good action moments, but the writing style wasn’t my favorite, and the plot was pretty repetitive.
I read And I Darken a while ago, and have only now gotten my hands on Now I Rise. It was a really interesting story based on the Ottoman Empire and historical figures, but with a gender swap. It’s really cool having such a strong female character in such a male-dominant society, even if historically she was a man. And it’s really cool to see same-sex relationships (potentially) happening between such powerful people so long ago in a society I can’t think allowed them.
If I get through Three Dark Crowns I’m moving right into One Dark Throne before I forget what happened again!
What have you read recently? What are you looking forward to reading next? I look forward to hearing from you!
