Book Box Review: Page Habit October

This box was my second ever book box I’ve received, so the only thing I have to compare it to is my October Owl Crate box. And to put it simply, it fell short. I do have to say, everyone else who got the October Owl Crate said it was one of the best ever, so maybe it set my expectations too high. Whether or not that is the case, I wasn’t overly impressed with this box.

What was in the box:

This month’s historical fiction book was The Last Ballad by Wiley Cash. I don’t think I’ve read anything in this setting before (1929 North Carolina), so I am excited to . I am also super excited to read the author’s annotations as I go along – I think that’s my favorite part of Page Habit boxes.

I also received Nightingale by Jean Copeland, a short story commissioned by Page Habit. I haven’t read it yet, but I think this is a very cute thing that they do.

This is a very cute library card pillow case! I’m not crazy about it being yellow, as that won’t go with any of my other bedding, but it’s still cute.

“The only think you absolutely have to know is the way to the library.” I love this quote. 🙂

These are pretty cute bookmarks. But they’ll be upside down when I use them?

A cute little jack-o-lantern keychain that lights up and makes a funny noise (I think it’s supposed to be spooky?).

I think this is my favorite thing about Page Habit – they donate! And they post how much they were able to do for their recipient of the month on Instagram, so we actually get to see what our money is doing!

Page Habit also ran a contest last month, and I won a code for free shipping and an extra book.

The Beast is an Animal by Peternelle van Arsdale sounds like a great October/Halloween read. It sounds like it’ll be nice and creepy. 🙂

Overall, I don’t think this was a bad box, but compared to Owl Crate, it seemed like a bunch of stuff just tossed together. I mean, I can see a little bit of a spooky theme with  the extra stuff I got, but the regular stuff just seems like a mishmash. Looking through Instagram, it seems like they have a lot of different goodies that came in everybody’s boxes, no matter the theme. So maybe they have so many of each goody a everybody gets a random assortment of 3-5?

Are you subscribed to Page Habit? What are your thoughts? How does it compare to other boxes?
