WWW Wednesday [12]

WWW Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Sam @ Taking on a World of Books to do a little reading plan update.

The Three Ws are:
What are you currently reading?
What did you recently finish reading?
What do you think you’ll read next?

This is two weeks of books since I missed posting last week. 🙂

Currently Reading:

bc    tfott

I am about 1 1/2 chapters into Bel Canto. And I adore the writing style! I am really excited to have randomly picked up a book that I think I will really love. 🙂

I also just started Fate of the Tearling. I feel like I wasn’t paying enough attention in the first two books to remember a lot of the stuff referenced. I kind of want to reread all them eventually, but we’ll see.

Recently Finished:

Silence in the Desert had a really interesting premise, but I just really disliked the writing. Like. I would have just DNFed it if it wasn’t from NetGalley/I just can’t DNF. I’ll get the review up one of these days.

Aloha from Hell was great. Stark snark is my favorite. And wow that ending was not something I saw coming (even if it was kind of hinted at in the last book)

Crazy Rich Asians was exactly what it the title says. It’s about mindbogglingly rich families in Singapore and I cannot even imagine that kind of wealth. Some of the things described in this book were just. Ugh. I can’t even. Also, I kind of want to punch Nick. I mean, how could he say NOTHING? Poor Rachel. That world is not something to be blindly tossed into.

Sweep in Peace and One Fell Sweep were both really hard to put down. I love how creative this world is and am really hoping there are many more books coming!

I was part of the book tour for Vermilion Tears last week. Here’s my post for that. I gotta say, I wasn’t wild about this book. It’s not quite my normal/preferred genre, so that was part of the problem. I did really like the love story aspect, but that’s about it.

Language of Thorns was A.M.A.Z.I.N.G. The illustrations were all so beautiful and the stories were so wonderfully told! They sound just like real fairy tales, but they all have better endings/morals in my opinion. And it took me until the last one to realize they were kind of retellings/expansions of real fairy tales.

I read Wonder Woman: Warbringer in one sitting this past weekend. I could not put it down! I haven’t actually ever read or watched anything else Wonder Woman related (but I really want to!), so I’m not familiar with the backstory and therefor was kind of surprised at all the Greek mythology.

I also had a hard time stopping reading Bloodfever. Mac is becoming a really strong, much less air-headed-seeming character, and I’m really happy for her. I just hope she really gets some real control and real answers soon.

The Little Bookshop on the Seine was a pretty cute story. I really connected with the main character, and I’m kind of incredibly jealous of everything she got to experience and the growth she went through. I did not realize that there was a story before this one – Overdrive listed it as the first in the series – so I guess if I do go back and read the first one I’ve had some spoilers.

Ok, how long have I been saying Prime Meridian is up next? It’s for real this time. Also I’m continuing my read-all-the-Goodreads-Choice-nominees-and-series challenge with First Grave on the Right.

    1. Haha I feel you, my TBR has to be at least a mile long.

I would definitely recommend it to him! I do think it was slightly more targeted towards girls, with the bits about fashion and and girly discussions, but it did have plenty of action and a lot of funny moments.
