Book Box Review: Owl Crate February 2018

Another month, another Owl Crate! February’s theme was “hidden worlds,” so of course focused on books that went to the world we know and love to some magical other place. There were items included from Alice in Wonderland, Coraline, The Chronicles of Narnia, and Daughters of Smoke and Bone. And ugh, did I love everything! Here’s what was included:

Summary from Goodreads: Seventeen-year-old Alice and her mother have spent most of Alice’s life on the road, always a step ahead of the uncanny bad luck biting at their heels. But when Alice’s grandmother, the reclusive author of a cult-classic book of pitch-dark fairy tales, dies alone on her estate, the Hazel Wood, Alice learns how bad her luck can really get: Her mother is stolen away―by a figure who claims to come from the Hinterland, the cruel supernatural world where her grandmother’s stories are set. Alice’s only lead is the message her mother left behind: “Stay away from the Hazel Wood.”

Alice has long steered clear of her grandmother’s cultish fans. But now she has no choice but to ally with classmate Ellery Finch, a Hinterland superfan who may have his own reasons for wanting to help her. To retrieve her mother, Alice must venture first to the Hazel Wood, then into the world where her grandmother’s tales began―and where she might find out how her own story went so wrong.

I was very much looking forward to reading this book. I mean, that summary! And that cover (I know, I know, don’t judge by a cover and all). But I’ve actually been seeing a lot of negative reviews for this book, so I think it’s going to remain quite low on my TBR pile. I do hope that when I get around to it, I can read it with an open mind.

I was honestly kind of flabbergasted to get this tapestry. I mean, it’s gorgeous and I love it, but it’s so big! The biggest thing I’d gotten in a book box so far is a pillowcase, and this is so much bigger. I really, really, really need to move soon and have a reading nook to put this up in. I seriously love it so much!

Another pouch that I don’t know what to do with. I mean, it’s cute and seems durable, I just don’t put stuff in pouches. If I wore make up or went to school it would be a good size for brushes or pencils I think. But I don’t do either, so I don’t know that I’ll ever use it.

This “Through the Wardrobe” candle smells so good! It’s basically magical winter scented (pine, mint, and vanilla), and I cannot get enough of it! This is a candle I would very seriously consider buying in a bigger size if I did not have so many candles.

I. Adore. This. Necklace. I’ve mentioned often enough on this blog that I don’t often wear jewelry, but I’ve already worn this several times, and (you guessed it) I just love it!

Last was an Alice in Wonderland sticker, that I forgot to take a picture of individually, but is pretty visible in the picture below. It is freaking adorable. I think if I ever get over my stick-a-phobia (fear of permanently sticking a sticker somewhere), I might put it on my laptop. I have so many unused stickers, I need to start doing something with them.

Did you receive Owl Crate’s February box? What was your favorite item? Do you read books that have bad reviews or low ratings on Goodreads?
